Comment: Anyone know anything about the newer burners? I bought a lite-on LTR52327s for my mac but ended up putting it in my pc after..the mac recognized it as a burner but it was too new "not supported' as it's a 2004 version...the PC burner apps i've got don't even recognize it as a burner however..they call it a cdrom..could it be my burning apps are too old? (I have Nero 4x and Adaptec Easy CD v3.5b - although the adaptec's defective anyways as on the cover it says " for winNT and 95/98 " and yet it said my OS (which *is* win98) isn't supported as it's too new and it wouldn't run... I should point out I have two cdroms , the main one , and the Lite-On burner as the slave... Anyone have any ideas?

Reply: (edit)If it's a new burner, it should have came with new software...why use the older stuff? You didn't mention how many HDDs you have, but you shouldn't have the two optical drives sharing the same cable...especially if you're gonna burn "on the fly". If you have 3 devices, here's the optimal config: prime master = HDD w/OS prime slave = CD drive 2ndary master = CD burner 2ndary salve = none

Reply: (edit)Usually this is a problem with the burning software. Newer drives are released, but will not work with the software unless an update patch adds that model to the drive database. Sometimes it requires buying a completely new package if the current version will not have a patch released. I bought one a couple of years ago and had to get an update for my EZ-CD Creator. After that the drive would detect correctly and burn disks. Good luck Richard

Reply: (edit)Yup..that's what I had to do...it was just frustrating..i didn't realize that burners aren't like CDROMS (with generic drivers) , but rather each burner must be specifically supported. Thing is, i'd installed nero 4x..didn't see the burner at all, couldn't get find a new enough update..tried adaptec3.5 and then 4x..same problem..had to register at adaptec's site and after i had done that they said they didn't support it anymore and sent me to roxio where i had to register all over again. ( !) . then i got the 4.02 to 4.05 update...srtill didn't work! Tried 'burn for free" and got assaulted with a full screen web page that just wouldn't close no matter what (had to reboot!) , and despite it being "free ad-supported", it still asked for a donation after i'd used it once.. After i'd decided to go look for an older burner..i luckily instead found a 5x version of roxio that, after the updates, just squeezed in as supported... Ouchhh....
