Linksys WRT400N

The 400 router does not have a gigabyte port and my desktop does. Can I use a gigabyte switch from my DSL modem and then connect up the 400? Any concerns? Will I lose the security from the router? Any suggestions for a better setup? Specific hardware suggestions? Thanks.
