Comment: I have a 1GHz laptop, and it does not have a CD burner only a DVD ROM Drive. I have another computer with 450Mhz and it has a CD Burner. There are big files on the laptop that I would like to put onto a CD. Therefore I would like to put the files from the laptop to the desktop. Is there a way to do this without spending lots of money? I have an ethernet cable, could I some how connect the two computers with that? If that is not possible Could I connect them through USB?

Reply: (edit)You need a crossover network cable. It looks just like the regular type except a couple of the wires are changed. There are also crossover plugs that you either plug into one network card and then use a regular network cable or ones that connect two network cables together and do the crossover there. USB is also a possible. If you have a hub or switch available you can connect two or more machines together in a network.

Reply: (edit)An ethernet connection can bet set up for less than $40 US. You need an Ethernet card/adapter for each system and a `crossover' eithernet cable. Another option is a special USB cable which would cost about the same. First class would be a wireless card/adapter for each system. That would probably run about $100 US. If you want to go really cheap (but slow), it could be done with special serial or parallel cables. That would probably cost $10-15.
