light stays on

hi whenever a cd is in my burner the front light stays on. but when i take the cd out the light turns off.

is this normal?

maybe the cd is messed up. Thats what happened to me sometimes. also, the cd-rom might be bad, or cant read certain cd's

also whenever i restarted, the cd-rom would work for a little while and then go back being dumb

It depends on the drive...some stay lighted to let you know there's a CD in the tray. If you have that type of drive, then it's completely normal...

On some, the light will stay on until the system is able to read it and determine that it's OK.
