I have two LG dvd drives that looks the same. One will close, if open, when rebooting but the other one has to be manually closed. Both are SATA DVD Burners.
What could be the reason for this? Mostly just curious.

My guess is that the drive that is selected as one of the boot devices is closing because the computer is looking for boot media in it.

Just curious, why do you leave the trays open at all? Good way to damage them accidentally. Giving the tray a small nudge when open will cause it to close. Or you can depress the button intended to operate the open/close tray function.

I agree with OtheHill. Your computer only checks one of the drives for an open tray so it can then check for the presence of bootable media, that's normal behaviour. That's the drive you should use when you need to boot from CD/DVD.

But as the OtheHill also says, you shouldn't have the trays open anyway except to insert or remove a disc, then close it again straight away.

I remember someone asking me to replace the built in cupholder once...

Leaving them open gives more chances for dust to get in.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
