I really need someone's help here and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm completely open to advice. I have a few issues, but let's conquer them one at a time. Here's the whole story... grab a coffee. :)

I have 2 desktop pc's, both Win98SE. Both were networked through a hub and used both file and printer share. Software called All Aboard was also necessary for sharing. Internet connection is Rogers cable. Life was good for a long time.
Then my hub got tired and died. I replaced it with a Motorola Wireless Router. It took some doing, but I got both pc's connecting to the internet. Configuration is as follows: Computer A is directly connected to modem and router. Computer B is directly connected to printer.
Since being connected to the router neither of the pc's can "see" each other; no file or printer sharing is possible. In my attempts to address the printer issue, I have also lost my Internet connection on pc B (the wireless one).

My thoughts are that I should first get the printer back online, then worry about the wireless connection. My concern with the printer is that I can't even print from pc B which is directly connected to the printer. My attempts to print bring a communication error.

I followed all the steps in the Lexmark manual. Unplugged, different plugged, reset, checked cables, powered down and up... no effect. Yes the power light is on. Can't install a "new printer" - error message says check cable connections. There is an X over the icon in the system tray.
My thoughts are that the usb cable is toast, but I don't understand how that could have happened.
Any thoughts?

P.S. sorry for the long message, but I thought you should know the WHOLE story. :)

Yeah..... I am having the same problem..... But I had no luck fixing it...

Did you install the latest driver for your printer model?

The drivers that came with the printer are installed. I tried to reinstall thinking that may be the problem. It won't let me. I keep getting an error message to check the connections as though the printer is not connected properly.

As it was working initially, it's safe to assume that it was connected properly. During the installation of the router I did NOT disconnect the printer. So clearly the connections are correct. I have, however, unplugged and replugged each connection (one at a time) to ensure that each was secure.

Thanks for the input... it's nice to know that I'm not alone. :)

I suggest that you use Add Remove programs to uninstall the printer software. Then remove the printer in Start > Settings > Printers. Reboot and reinstall the printer software/drivers.

Afternoon,
Just for the hell of it, go into the BIOS and check the settings for the USB ports. The error you are getting could be caused by the USB ports somehow resetting to the default setting and not allowing bidirectional signals to and from the printer.
I had a similiar problem with my Lexmark and it was the USB settings in the BIOS.
Just my thoughts,
XDon

I went into the Bios Features Settings. I didn't see any entry for USB. Is it possible that something got erased? Or am I not looking in the right place?

Also, I did try the Add/Remove printers. (Did not remove everything first.) The pc won't add because it doesn't see the printer as being connected properly.
