Letter width on screen

All of a sudden the letters on my screen get narrower towards the sides and wider towards the center; and on pictures the people appear pretty fat in the center and awfully skinny near the sides. I think it must be a software problem since when I use DOS, all letters are exactly the same width from left to right on the entire screen. Anybody have an idea on how to fix this?

Video cards and monitors are in different modes for Dos (alpha) and windows (graphic). It sounds more like a hardware problem to me. Try a different monitor and/or video card. I am dismissing the driver because it was working at one time.

Thanks Ham30; I will take the monitor and plug it in at a friend's computer tomorrow, that should give me some indication of where the problem may be.
