Specs: Windows 7, 2 DUO T 7200 / 3 GB
My Lenovo Thinkpad Z61p ULTRABAY DVD CD-RW reads cds and dvds, but when I go to write ... it gives messages "drive not ready", "no disc in drive" or "disc not blank", "wrong media on disc" and it will not write to the cd or dvd.

First of all, your Thinkpad came with WinXP installed. WinXP does not natively support writing to DVDR or RW media. If that is the OS you are using.

I suggest you go to the Lenovo support site and enter the serial number or service tag number to determine all your specific specs. Your DVD drive may not be capable of writing the type of media you are using.

EDIT - DO NOT double post on the same topic.
Another point to make is that DVDR and RW media may or may not need to be finalize before you can read or write to a previously used disk.

If you have used a packet writing program to save data to a disk you will probably need to use that program to add additional data to a disk. That could be the reason for the messages you are seeing.

Clarify what version of Windows you are using and if you have any third party burning software installed.

Did you make any changes to the system or software since the last time you were able to successfully burn a disk?

My OS is windows 7 ultimate. I have Nero 2015, plus some untried software.

What untried software are you referring to? Burning software?

Did you check on the specs of your computer at the manufacturers website as I suggested?

So when you wish to write a disk are you opening Nero and then dragging files over to Nero? Or are you trying to use Windows 7 features?
