Hi Guys,
BIG help needed here please if poss. I'm trying to fix a mates PC which has an EP-8KHA+ board, AMD 900 chip and WIN XP Pro. Don't really know the background to the problem at the mo, other than when first switched on nothing happens other than a single long beep, at least a second or more in duration with a gap of about a second or more again. This is constantly repeated. Nothing comes on the screen at all - no BIOS info - nothing. This for no apparant reason then changed to no noise when switched on - still nothing on the screen.
I took the side of the box to have a look - all connections appear ok - all fans are turning. The board has a POST LED on showing either CI, Cl or C1. In other words a letter C and a straight vertical line.
I have found on the epox sight where the manuals are available for download (owner doesn't have one) but for some reason they won't download.

Does anyone have -
a list of what the POST error codes are?
or
Know what the above error means?
or
Any other ideas please?

Much obliged in advance.

JerryH

There are at least two Epox web sites - Taiwan and USA - try the one you didn't try before. You're going to need the manual to check that the ram is the right type, in the right slots, and to check jumpers and connections as well.

Many mboards have diagnostic led's - some are on all the time the system is running, the color of them varying depending on the state of the system, or they are on or off, depending on the state of the system - them being on doesn't necessarily mean they are indicating an error condition.

Try re-seating the ram, and the cards in the slots, with the power UNPLUGGED.

The most common reasons for no boot, no video are:
- a video card improperly seated - many mboards will not boot, will beep if that is so.
- a bad power supply - try another one if you can
- trying to use ram that is not compatible with the mboard - if someone recently installed ram that hasn't been in this mboard before, if you have the old ram that was in it available, take out the ram that was added, put the old ram back in.
- someone tried to flash the bios and something went wrong

What Bios Manuf is the board?

Award C1=Oem Specfic -test to size On Board memory.
Phoenix 4.0 C1=Initialize Post Error Manager(PEM)

For codes go here BiosCentral

Look on the Biso Chip maybe labeled the Manuf.

Award Synopis
If not try reseating the Memory and/or known good memory that's compatible.

Phoenix Synopis
If that's no help than look for some blown Caps. The capacitor will have a round top if blown.

It may be the best for a new board.
