Comment:

My TFT LCD (SMD-M51) monitor does 2 weird things.

Occasionally, when the monitor is turned on the screen comes on horizontally moved about 3/4 up the screen.
The stupid fix is; turn the monitor off and on. Now the screen is normal.
What causes this to occur?

Problem #2 is not that easy, although so far the remedy has been equally stupid.

Out of the blue, sometimes on start up, the screen is taken over by vertical lines. The lines start few and increase until the whole screen is finally gray. Initially I was alarmed at the possibility of a virus until I found the stupid fix.
The fix initally was removing and retightening the connector. This helped but didn't cure the problem. Finally, I was frustrated enough to start smacking the monitor on top of it's head. This corrects the problem 'till next time.
Is there a real fix to correct this problem?
I've changed cables with no change in the condition.

Thank you, Richard

Those reflect problems inside the monitor..might just be loose wires but I doubt it.I would get it in for repair now or replace it if it's old before it leaves you completely!

yeah, it sounds like an internal hardware problem. You've replaced the cable, and hitting the monitor has an effect. I'd look into having it either repaired or replaced.
