Subject: Large Res Monitors Suck!OS: Win Xp SP1CPU/Ram: Athlon XP 2400 / 512DDR |
Comment: Lo all, I got an ANNOYING problem. I just brought a new monitor, because my old ones connector was faulty, and it VERY often flicked from blue to pink.. and everything basicaly every colour, lol. So, i brought a new one, except after reading MANY reviews, I discovered practicly every 1600+ res monitor has SOME PROBLEM, like grid lines... or... ripple effects, or some pile of crud. I keep reading no end of problems... its pathetic, like we dont have the techonology for such monitors doing 1600 at 75hz (for example). And now, I brought one which sounded adequate (AOC 9G+ 19Inch CRT), and it's got some bloomin Pixelation problem along the top! I mean, thats why I dont buy second hand, it cruds up, but this is brand new for £120, best resolution at 1600 doing 75hz (currently 1600@70hz), and its fakked after 3 minutes. The Optimum Res is 1280@85hz, I havn't tested it at that to see if the pixelation occurs, but surely the pixelation shouldnt happen at all. I guess what i'm asking is, is this a faulty monitor? I don't wanna have to join the club of the millions sending back monitors! (Thank God I did buy it from the local store!!!!!!!) In the mean time, i'll test out the 1280@85hz, see if I get the cack at the top ~_~ Thanks for your help! Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...

Reply: (edit)Ah the piece of shiest, I just tried the so called "optimum" res of 1280@85hz, and I got the same darn problem. Its not as bad, but you can see it. And omg, the top 5cm of the screen, when dragging the top of the window, where the blue title bar is, the letters are kinda zig zagging a spec from side to side, and sort of losing quality at certain "Horizontal Grid Lines".... and im no monitor expert, but that has to be a technical problem! dont believe this ~_~ I suppose ya'll are gonna recommend send it back, don't get another of the same monitor, just claim my money back, and buy a 15Inch that won't be buggered up? Which I guess I might be able to live with if the world can't create monitors that work right :( Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...

Reply: (edit)oh my god, I considered Viewsonic monitors mainly (The ViewSonic P95F+B 19Inch CRT in particular), but were often too expensive, and the amount of bad reviews saying they were buggering up was off putting. I paid £120 for mine, and am still thanking god i didnt buy online, so i can send it back a WHOLE lot easier, and not have to pay for packaging. With the kinda stuff i do with my computer now, running multiple programs, lots of graphics editing, i wanted the monitor i mentioned earlier for its 2048 Res to go with my FX5600... but... ANYWAY, can someone atleast recommend a monitor, WITHIN the £140 range capable of 1600... and **WORKS** right, lol, It would be much appreciated! Thanks! ^_^ And sorry if it sounds like im being a git, I just.. like technology to work! Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...

Reply: (edit)A monitor can't display a better picture than the graphics card sends to it. I am sitting here using my hitachi 21" 10 year old monitor running 1600 x 1200 @94k and the picture is beautiful. I believe pixelation is a product of the video card, not the monitor. What are you using for a graphics card?

Reply: (edit)I'm not sure what you consider good picture quality, but I have several (5 or 6) monitors here in the U.S. that I've bought USED from various thrift stores. I've paid anywhere from 30-50.00 U.S. ALL off them will run 600x800, which is what I like, just great. I just don't know what to tell you.

Reply: (edit)lol ^_^ 800x600 is a tad to small for my likings >_< The Video card?! I hope not, paid alot money for this, the "Geforce FX 5600 256MB". I remember reading about the Mhz bandwidth the card can send to the monitor or something.. which i didnt double check on, if that may cause problems. I consider my AGP card... or modern standards, and thought it would run with any monitor at the present time :( I was a fool to think such things, lol. Thinking about it!!! Not only does this sound similar to many technical problems reported by other buyers, but my previous monitor (1280@60hz it ran at) had no problem runing >_< Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...

Reply: (edit)lol, that could also be a point, i think the 15Inch can be up to £250, where you can buy a 19Inch CRT capable of 2048 for the same price! Crazie world ^_^ So I guess if no one can suggest another monitor, I will have to merely trial and error what I buy, until I get one that WORKS right. Thanks for the help people ^_^ Oh, either he got the 600x800 the wrong way round, or you can buy protrait monitors instead of landscape? ^_^ Interesting idea Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...

Reply: (edit)heh, if anybody thinks the resolution on LCD's is bad, check the refresh rates - UGH! sucks for gaming! manufacturers have been caching up but not at a good price thats fer sure. I'd take that monitor back, just grab another by another brand. I've had good luck with KDS and IBM monitors (12 17" ers with no problem to date, been 6 years, and 3 are USED to!) mmmffhhhmmm..mmmhhmmff! (trans: AH! THE RATS! THE RATS!)

Reply: (edit)Hmmm, thanks for the input ^_^ I brought mine from www.littlebush.com, since its local. The only other monitor manufacturer they have is Iiyama (Which I believe are of high quality?), except the EXACT equivalent is like £40 more, £10 more then my budget. I guess I could just buy that Iiyama monitor, and if its buggered aswell, take it back, and get all my cash back? (I dont mind the extra 10 for as long as it WORKS ^_^) yeh, WORKS is the keyword of this thread! Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...

Reply: (edit)I see your points there myardour. Perhaps my budget is to small for the kind of quality monitor im looking for (Mainly a 1280x1024@85hz or similar). Geforce card is by MSI, latest geforce drivers are installed, and the latest DirectX, which I believe is v9b. £150 = $270 *Performs calculations* I guess I can spend £250, or $450. All my computer friends say that alone £150 is too much, but I think its because they dont have THAT much money (not trying to be evil!), or I just look at money as being... worthless, in comparison, lol. But $1000?!?! Surely.. that is still a bit overkill for a monitor, lol, but I guess its all perception! Renamon, If You Lose I'm Going To Be Very Vexed...
