Specs: Windows 7
Okay so I bought a used computer off ebay a QosmioX505 and it works great while its plugged in, but if its not plugged in the backlight will not power on. Also while its plugged in if I adjust the monitor on my laptop it will go black momentarily, and occasionally it will just stay black(backlight power goes off for good) and I have to restart the computer.

I asked someone at geeksquad and they said its either the LCD inverter or the LCD, but it would cost 50 or more dollars for the diagnosis. So I thought I would come here first.

Try going into Power from Control Panel, click on Advanced Power Settings and go to Display, have a play about with any settings in here.

I would probably turn off the option to put the display to sleep whilst on battery etc.

And try setting it on high performance then unplugging your laptop to see if it works.

Unfortunately I already tried those things, I am almost positive its a hardware issue, I just do not know which piece, I am assuming LCD inverter or LCD
