Hi folks,

I have a laptop here - it's a Compaq Presario, Celeron Processor. Basically, it won't turn on at all. The charger works fine (green light comes on) and we plug it into the laptop's power outlet. Pressing the power button does NOTHING. No fan spinning, no hard drive start up, nothing.

In the past, I've seen that taking out the battery and just trying to operate it on power sometimes gets the laptop started. It does not happen here.

It is suspected that perhaps there is problems with the connection with the charger and the laptop power outlet. I don't have an additional charger to try, so I'm sort of at a loss.

I understand that the motherboard could be fried or something, and that's where there is no power. Any suggestions on what I might be able to do?

Thanks

I had a similiar problem, it might be the video controller burnt out, and since it was integrated then best bet it is motherboard or Intergrated Graphics Processor Unit.

I can only imagine the Video Controller being the problem assuming that the hard drive spins up. But since the hard drive doesn't even spin up, nor does the power lights on the laptop come on at all, doesn't that rule out it being any sort of 'video' problem?

A green light on the charger does not guarantee it is working. I have seen situations where such a powersupply shows green to indicate is has power input from mains supply however it was not producing any output.
Until you get a known good power adaptor you cannot hope to diagnose whether the laptop itself is damaged. Speculation about graphics or motherboard at this juncture is pure guesswork.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Remove the AC power adapter plug from the laptop. Check the connector where it plugs into and see if it's loose. They sometmes break loose from the motherboard. It might just need a new resoldering job.
