My Dell Inpirion 1000 Laptop will not power on. I have never had any problems with my laptop other than it being slow and my power cord breaking.
My roommate borrowed it one day and let the battery completely die. I never use it without the cord since the battery only last about a half an hour. She got the power cord from me and claimed she could not get it to work. I guess she tried forcing it in or something because some of the prongs were sligtly bent inside the plug on the actual laptop. When I bent them back and got the plug in, the laptop would not turn on. I also tried using her universal plug and nothing. Green lights flash for a second...then orange, but nothing happens. The fan does not even start. Is it possible that it won't start because she killed the battery or somehow shorted out the plug (unlikely b/c it is a three prog plug and I think she was putting it in upsidedown). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

It sounds like she broke the power jack within the laptop, and as a result the power is actually not connected when the plug is inserted.

You get some flashing lights from the machine because there is still a little bit of power left in the battery.

You will have to have the machine serviced and have them replace the power jack.

If it is the power jack and she broke it by forcing the plug in I will have to ask her to pay for the repair.
Is it possible to repair the power jack yourself at home. I found some power jacks on ebay (have yet to find one for the Inspiron 1000) and my boyfriend was a computer engineering major. Is it very risky to try to repair yourself?
