Laptop will not start (95%of the time). Toshiba Satellite Pro 4320. When power is turned on, hard drive and fan start up. Monitor only rarely turns on. Yesterday I had a situation where the monitor displayed a grey screen when I powered up. Floppy drive light stays on when the system is powered on but doesn't function. Similarly, the diskette/DVD indicator light on the front remains on. I took the floppy drive and DVD drive out and nothing changed. The indicator light remains lit even with both devices disconnected. Any ideas?

Have you tried booting from the Win XP CD? I would try that first. Put the XP CD into your DVD ROM and turn the computer on and see if you bet an option to boot from the XP CD. If you do the try doing a reinstallation or a repair install. I am almost convinced that you have a hardware failure though. Probably the motherboard. It doesn't sound as if you are getting past POST which checks all of your hardware. If the is a problem with your hardware it will generally hang in POST. Could be RAM, motherboard, HDD, modem anything really. If the laptop has been dropped or jarred severely you may want to take it apart and check all your connections and cables, disconnect them and reconnect them. Take your RAM out and reseat it, etc. If it has gotten wet, something may be shorted out.
