Laptop won't stay on.

Specs: Windows XP, /1GBH
My hp nc6000 turns on fan running and then turns off 1 minute later. This seems to be a major problem with this model laptop any suggestions.

A. In Control Panel, check your power options. I should ask what OS you are running? XP ... Vista, Win7? and is your OS 32bit or 64bit? If you go to Control Panel - System icon, it will indicate OS and type...

Your power settings may indicate "system standby" for a short period of time.

how old is the laptop? is the battery fully charged, and the AC plugged in?
can u get to safe mode/bios?
check to see if its not overheating. usually causes for this are the battery being old and all.
