Laptop won't start

This Laptop only goes as far as the Gateway Logo and then it shuts down again. A brand new AC Adapter did not help, same thing. Does it have a CMOS Battery or does it use the main Battery for the BIOS? What if the main Battery should be faulty, would it act like that? Thanks.
