I have an old thinkpad 760EL. Was working fine, then, no power with battery or plugged into AC adapter. When testing with voltmeter, I have power at the 4 prong plug and battery shows power. When I test the prongs into the battery, with battery removed, I only get about 1/2 volts. When plugged into adapter, I get no LCD display at keyboard and the LED that shows charging does not light up. I have tried the reset button. Thanks for any advice

Try removing the battery and working off AC adapter only.
If no power then suspect faulty AC adapter.
The battery may be flat: as a consequence of not being charged up, on account of a dead AC adpater.
If it does have power and the system runs, then your battery has failed and needs replacing or 'repacking'. Some companies can rebuild these battery packs by installing fresh cells.

Lots of power from Ac Adapter.Tested with voltmeter. Battery was at 100% 15 min before went down. battery also tests full voltage. I am certain it is not a battery or AC adapter problem.
