I'm just not having good luck with hardware this month. A few weeks ago i destroyed a 7300GS, and before that one of my AM2 mobos shorted out and i had to RMA it. now my laptop seems to be broken.
Well the problem that i'm having is that when i turn the power on, all the fans come on like its going to start up, and right as the screen is about to load, it shuts off and powers back on really fast, but now the fans are spinning at full speed. During all this, all the lights come on, and i can even open the cd drive, but the screen doesn't come up. I've tried hooking it up to an external monitor, but no good. I'm thinking its the motherboard, but i'm not sure. BTW the laptop is a Gateway MX7515 with and ATI x600 and amd 4000+ in it.
if you feel comfortable getting your hands dirty you can take it apart and reseat the cpu, memory and possibly the video card
(i did not check to see if video or cpu were imbedded on this model)
an easy thing to do is take the battery out for a while and let it sit with no power for about a minute to see if its just having one of those days itself.
I was actually thinking about taking it apart seeing as its out of warranty anyway. The strange thing about it is right before it started doing this, the screen came on and everything, then all of a sudden it just reset, and started doing this. That tells me something must have just died (hopefully, a replaceable part).
I've already tried taking out the ram, and wireless card since they have ports on the bottom, but no luck. Also, i have let it sit for a few days, and tried to power it up again, also with no luck.
