have you checked that fans are working and not clogged with dust etc and that you are not using it in a way that blocks the air vents eg. laptop resting on something soft carpet/duvet etc. even using on your lap can block vents on some models

I have seen this several times, especially when the fan or fans are on the bottom of the Laptop. Sometimes it is as simple as the rubber feet wearing down or falling off. There is not enough of a gap for good air circulation. You can get taller self adhesive rubber feet from the hardware store, this will many times fix or greatly reduce the problem. You can also get laptop stands with a built-in fan for better cooling.
