Hi Sayjack I run a Compaq presario that has a small button above the touchpad that allows the pad mouse to be turned off if an external mouse is connected. Have you looked if you may have turned it off inadvertantly. If no button exists then I suggest that either give the pad a wipe, you'd be amazed how much crap builds up, or re-install the mouse driver. Wolfey

Most of the Dell's I worked on had to have the palmrest which contains the touch pad replaced for that problem. Installing the drives will not help. You could run the diagnostics CD that came with it to see if the hardware actually works. If not then replacement time. There is no repair you can do at your level. I tried on some before needing to replace but no-go. Good luck
