What inputs does the TV have?
S-video? Composite (female RCA)?
A VGA port (flattenened D shaped, 15 pin holes or pins)?

Does your laptop have a TV out port - S-video or composite (female RCA)?
A VGA out (external monitor) port?

If the TV doesn't have a VGA port you can connect to, if you have TV out on the laptop and connect it, the display on the TV will be inferior to that on a monitor. Video may look okay, but text in particular will look poor in comparison.

Some programs, such as those used to play DVD video, will only display an image on the primary monitor or display (e.g. Power DVD).
