Hi!
My daughters laptop screen has just started playing up and I'm not sure if there is a simple fix. It starts to go off white with a blob starting in the bottom left of the screen and slowly spreading. After about 10 seconds this off white blob has covered about about half the screen and is starting to go light purple at the centre. Then, after about 30 seconds, the screen comes up with a frozen image of the current page or display that has lines across it. The strange thing is, if I press the screen the display goes back to normal and after a few seconds the whole process starts again.
Can anyone offer any advice?

I would use a live linux cd to see if the exact same thing happens. Kind of sounds more like a operating system issue and not a hardware issue. I can't imagine how the screen could do that. I could see how the video adapter or other parts might. Really sounds like some memory mapping deal. (or a really odd virus or corny screen saver)

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

Cheers for your answer, I'll try that. The reason I thought it is more likely to be the screen itself is that when I press the screen lightly with my thumbs, it goes back to normal. Would this happen if it was software? I wondered if it it a screen gone bad or if there was some wiring back there that may have come loose. (I've never taken it all apart to have a look!!)
Cheers!

I'm not sure pushing the screen is a proven test method.

I haven't seen the issue. I can say that I understand a bit on the actual mechanics of how a lcd works. From your statement I can't exactly see how it could fail like that.

I would also hook it up to an external monitor and see if the same thing happens. It sounds like your screen is going on you but try it out just to rule out a driver issue.
