Turn the laptop off and remove the battery. Leave it in a warm place to dry out for a couple of days and try again.

Your success depends a lot on what this liquid was that was spilled. If the liquid was plain water then the prognosis is good. If the liquid was coffees heavily laced with sugar or something like orange juice then the prognosis is not so good.

What you are supposed to do when you spill liquid on a laptop is unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery immediately, and take it apart and remove all liquid found. That gives you the best chance of yielding you a laptop that will still work fine.
If you don't want to take it apart yourself, you take it to a laptop repair place and have them do the job - they clean up laptops that liquid has been spilled on frequently.

Some makers, e.g. HP/Compaq and Dell, have a Service or Maintenance manual you can download that tells you how to take apart your laptop properly. For others you can often find the same on the web for free or for a reasonable fee.
