laptop screen gone bad

my girlfriends laptop is acting up for some reason. its a old dell inspiron 1200, and everytime they boot up the laptop and stuff the screen just shuts off and goes black. it seems like the computer still works but the screen just goes black. right now im using it and i notice that if i move it a little too much it would do it but sometimes it wont. so yeah i need some help on this and i think this might be a hardware problem or something. thanks

thanks for the help but it doesnt really help with my problem. the screen on the laptop suddenly just goes off but the laptop is still on. this can happen while its booting up or in the middle of use. so yeah its kind of weird
