Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 2000 and recently it seems to have gone haywire. I've had it for just over a year with no problems, but recently, every so often the screen suddenly goes black whilst I'm using it. Not totally black - I can just make out the outline of the programs I am using; essentially the screen has faded completely, though. The only thing I can do to restore the picture other than restarting is to close the lid of the laptop quickly so that it beeps. However, the problem is getting worse, and now it frequently happens that as soon as the picture is restored, it fades out again. It is almost impossible to use the laptop at the moment. Has anybody ever encountered anything similar? Or does anybody have any ideas about what could be causing it? I don't want to wipe everything and use the system recovery disk if that isn't going to solve the issue...

Many thanks,
Keith

Wow, just in time for the warranty to run out.

that doesn't sound good. it may have a heat related problem with the video line drivers in the display.

your options are to have Toshiba fix it or use an external monitor.

Hi, many thanks for the reply. Excuse me while I go and scream very loudly. :) Is there anything I can do to fix it myself, or do you know of anywhere else I might find out more information about this problem? I've built and fixed desktop PC's, but have no experience with laptops and have never encountered a problem quite like this one before...

I think you might be right about it being a heat problem, though, as - although I have yet to test it a bit more - I think the problem tends to get worse the longer the laptop is left on...

Many thanks,
Keith

Maybe you can pick up another Toshiba and sick the cannibals on it. But your easiest workaround would to pick up a used external monitor.
