Laptop Screen dulls down when adapter connected.

Specs: Windowns XP , AMD Turion64
My laptop screen dulls down 50% when I attach the original power adapter to the connection on the laptop.
I have checked the power adapter on another laptop, with the identical connection and it works fine.
I would like to know what the problem could be?
Other than that the laptop works fine when running on battery and on power but the screen just dulls down when on charge or even when connected and power is turned on at the wall? NOTE:Screen only dulls down when power at wall socket is turned on. Checked wall socket all OK.

Check the power settings in Control Panel. It's possible that it is set to dim the display when on mains power but not when on battery. Normally it's set the other way round, but anything is possible.

It would help to know the make/model of your laptop, but all you need to do is brighten the screen. To do that simply hold the Fn key & tap the appropriate F-key. On my HP laptop, it's F8.
