I have a desktop with SATA. It has an extra SATA port. My laptop is also SATA. Will it harm anything if i connect the laptop drive to the desktop useing the power connector in the desktop and another SATA cable on the extra SATA port?

I'm not sure that i understand what you want to do. Do you want to have a second drive that you can connect to either the laptop or the desktop? That would work fine.
(edit) Othehill is probably right. After thinking about it, I wonder how the drive connected to the laptop would get power.

I don't believe the cable connections are compatible so you won't be able to do that.
What is the reason why you want to do that anyway? Is the laptop bootable?

Well, from the link by itguru it appears that Laptop SATA drives have the same connectors as desktop SATA drives.
The question still remains, why are you doing this?

I already said they have the same connectors. I replyed to this post but for some reason it was removed. The reason is if i need to get important info off incase the laptop drive crashes i may be able to get important info off. I have already had one drive to go bad. Also i could scan for viruses with it as slave. The reason i asked i am just checking if its safe too this? Would it be too much power and fry the drive?
