Laptop running slowly and not responding

May 1, 2010 at 19:54:49
Specs: Windows Vista

I was away recently and lent my Laptop to my girlfriend and she installed a couple of programs like open office and Microsoft outlook. She had to pay for open office so she may have got it from a shifty website because there were a few viruses on it when I got back. Also a deodorant can fell on the keyboard and broke the right ALT and WINDOWS keys off.

I didn't think it was too bad I updated Norton and ran it to get rid of the viruses and the computer was still going really slow. I needed to do a format anyway so I did - Computer was still slow. Then I re-formatted all of my hard drives ran a virus scan on them and defragmented all of them and it is still slow.

I'm thinking the can might have smashed something inside the laptop it was making a weird noise earlier.

Any help would be great - I don't want to have to pay to get it fixed so i'd rather have a good crack at doing it myself. I'm gonna check if its under warranty still tomorrow.

Cheers dudes

1. Open office is free

2.If you formatted the disk it would have been clean when you
reinstalled windows.

3.Warranty will not be covered for damage

4.Could be a hardware problem.

Go to the hard disk manufacturers website & run diagnostics
tests. Also, could try reseating RAM & running memtest86
