Hello!

I have a thinkpad IBM A22m computer. The problem that I have with it is that it overheats on me some of the time. I have not tried just letting it sit and do nothing. But it seems to always work fine while formating or scanning, but always seems to freeze up on me, due to heat, while internet surfing.

What I am wondering is if there is a way to get the system's fan to spin more often so that it cools the system better. I know that when I first boot the system the fan spins. As I can see it. But I doubt that it ever comes on after that.

Any suggustions? Or should I just look into getting one of the cooling devices that they make that you set the laptop on?

I would prefer not, since i wanted it for mobility. (Use in the field and such).

Thanks for reading!

George

BadBoy, Thanks for the advice.

I cleaned it out some, as best I could without taking it apart. and it has sat for almost two full days without over heating.

Thanks for your help!

The other thing you can do is make sure it sits on a hard surface, so the fans underneath are not blocked at all. The fans underneath generally suck air in and push it out the back or sides, so even a post-it can get stuck to it and cause a heat problem. Your lap isn't good either, I just use a small board or something to leep it on it's feet.
