Often just a can of compressed air sold at computer and office supply stores to blow out the dust build up from the laptop's vents is enough. When it is not enough, often the build up is enough to stop the internal fan from turning which may need disassembly of the laptop to fix. The next possibility is that the fan itself is no longer good and needs replacing. Other possibilities are best left out of discussing until these more common ones are checked out.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Does your # 1 response mean you solved the problem or that a similar inquiry is what drew you here?

Also if 'batt(e)ry also totally dry' means it's not holding a charge then maybe having the charger going full time or almost full time is what's causing the overheating.

Is it the battery overheating?
Take out the battery and run on charger only. See if it is still overheating.

Does the battery still hold charge?
If you battery is more than 2 years old, it could be too far degraded or even partly damaged.
