Good deal, glad we got it figured out. You can use a USB keyboard while your new keyboard is on order.

Check ebay for your keyboard, really good prices.

So you were able to tap F12 and get the boot menu but the arrow keys will not let you select up or down and the computer is beeping.

Sounds like you have a stuck key on your keyboard. Did you spill something on your computer? Anyway to test this you will need to remove your keyboard on your computer and try to boot.

Have you, or is it possible someone else who had access to this computer...
- dropped it, or dropped anything on it, or otherwise exposed it to a physical jolt ?
- spilled liquid on it, or sprayed it with liquid, or exposed it to liquid such as rain ?

Since the computer last worked properly all the time, has there been a power failure event that happened while the AC adapter was plugged in ?

Those things are the most frequent reasons something inside the laptop has been damaged.
.......

I have a Acer laptop of a friend's that he asked me to fix, for the second time. It was dropped. At first the built in display did not work, but I found it worked fine with an external monitor. Several months later ALL the USB ports and the keyboard stopped working (it had not been dropped again). I opened it up and found the corner of the mboard was physically damaged, but found nothing else obvious. I tried everything I could think of other than replacing pieces but could not fix the problems.

The beeping is not a good symptom.
It's quite rare for the hard drive to beep, so it's probably coming fr
from the mboard.

See response 2 in this - try cleaning the contacts on the ram modules, and making sure the modules are properly seated:
http://www.computing.net/hardware/w...

For a laptop, or netbook, you must remove both its main battery and AC adapter before you do that.

For a brand name computer, see the Owner's or User's manual if you need to - how to remove or replace the ram is usually in that - it may already be in your installed programs. If you can't get into Windows, it may be on a disk that came with the computer, or you can go online and look at it or download it - it's in the downloads for your specific model.
.....

Try a USB corded keyboard, however, you MAY need to disconnect the built in keyboard.
....

If you have any suspicion the laptop may have been dropped, find a service manual on the web for the model series, open up the laptop, and check for loose or damaged components.

If you, or if it's possible anyone else, have spilled liquid on the keyboard, or elsewhere on the laptop, you may need to replace the keyoard, and possibly other pieces.

I guessed it :D

You will have to take the keyboard off and see if any got on the motherboard. If you find any water spots, clean it up with a cotton swab and some alcohol. If you have corrosion on your mainboard, clean it up with simple green, then go back over it with alcohol. And then replace your keyboard.

If you do not feel comfortable doing this, call around and find a competent computer repair shop.
