Here is my laptop problems.

1. I retore my laptop to its original factory configuration using the recovery disk that came with the package. At this point my LCD shows brown vertical dash lines. But the lettering are visible.

2. The restoring process proceed into Window Xp screen with those vertical brown lines visible in one of the window logo only.

3. After a few minutes, the screen went blank and I could hear the window starting up sound. There is back light shown on the monitor but nothing else.

4. I have not tried to connect the laptop to another lcd screen since I have not one.

Could some one please give me some directions and what might be the problem and how to fix it.

Thanks.

Was the laptop display working properly before you ran the Recovery procedure?

If it wasn't, the installing of any software will not fix your display problem.

The brown lines should not be there - they are caused by a hardware problem, not a software problem.

Have you dropped the laptop since the display last worked properly? If you have, anything could be damaged.

Have you spilled any liquid on the laptop, or has it been exposed to any liquid such as rain, since it last worked properly?
If that applies, it doesn't matter if it was running at the time or not, it could still have been damaged. The ATX mboard is powered in some places all the time as long as the main battery is installed.

If your laptop has a monitor port, connect an external monitor to that port and try that with your computer.
- if the display is still not normal, your laptop has major problems, and it may cost more than you want to spend to fix those problems.
- if the display is normal on the external monitor there is nothing wrong with the laptop's display adapter, but there is something wrong with either
- the wiring between the base and the LCD display in the lid, usually in the hinge area. That is relatively cheap to fix.
- more commonly, your backlight is failing or has failed, and/or the voltage inverter for the backlight is failing or has failed.
For some info about replacing a voltage inverter or backlight, and what some typical symptoms are, see response 5 in this:
