I will try to explain my problem the best I can but I am not really what anyone would call good with computers. So I just recently bought an HP Pavilion zv6000 laptop in July 2006. It's been working fine up until two months ago. The problem is the monitor. At first the right side of screen would flash darker and brighter sometimes but it would only happen maybe a couple seconds then stop and it would only happen maybe twice a day. That happened up until a week ago. All of a sudden when I had my laptop open and the monitor would automatically turn off (or when I closed the laptop lid) it would sometimes (not all the time), when I went to move the mouse to turn it back on and go on it the screen would turn all streaked with colour. However when I restart it, most of the time it will go back to normal but even sometimes when I restart it, it remains the same way. My first reaction is that their is a problem with the connection of the monitor. But how come when I restart it without moving the laptop at all it goes back to normal? I just need some information on how to fix this problem and I just need to know if it is actually the monitors connection. Thanks! If you need more info about it or you don’t get what I wrote just let me know.

If this was a new laptop it should still be under warranty. The best place to ask for help would be thier tech support. You don't want to open a unit if under warranty.

I'm leaning towards a driver issue.
Have you visited HP's website to check for any updated drivers for your laptop?
I have also seen problems like this with laptop coming out of hybernation, because the hard drive shuts off. A work around for that is to go into the "Control Panel" and under power options, set the Hard drive to "always on" so the next time your laptop goes into hybernation the hard drive will continue spinning. The only time your hard drive will shut off is when you power the system down.
You could possibly have some bad sectors on your hard drive that may have corrupted your driver for your video card.
You can run a check disk by going into "My Computer" and right clicking your "C" drive and choose "properties" from the list. You then click on the tools tab and click on the button that says "Check Now". It will try to run but will most likely prompt you to schedule a check disk at next restart. Schedule the check disk and then restart the PC. Let that run so it can check for errors and try to recover any bad sectors.Other than that. It will most likely be a hardware issue.
Overheating
Loose connection or broken wire
Video card dying a slow dealthHope this helps,

Thanks so much for your advice Dave02. I went into the power options and changed it so the hard disks never shut off and I also did the C drive check now.
To keep you posted when I did the check at first after restarting I accidentally hit a key when taking the laptop off my lap and all of a sudden it kept saying "The disk does not have enough space to replace bad clusters. Detected in file 'and then it kept going up in numbers from 30000 to 60000" Until I decided to restart because I figured I must have done it. So I restarted and ran the check now option again and made sure I hit no keys and that never happened again. And at the end it said the volume is clean.
Before I did all this however just to update you at one point I was looking through pictures and my screen started slowly from the bottom right corner changing colours. It's hard to explain it but that never happened before and I decided to shut it down.. out of fear that something worse was about to happen. But anyways thanks again for your help and I have yet to have any of my previous problems. I will update in a few days if none of those problems happen again. Or I will reply to this as soon as the same problem happens.
If this does happen again however I will take your advice OtheHill. Thank you both for your advice.~Stephanie.
