on my packard bell easynote (5138 series) laptop i have a port to connect a second VGA monitor. i connected my very old crt monitor and the power seems to be on because it sits on stand-by, but there is no image.
i checked all the settings in the control panel and even the bios and no luck
any help on a possible fix is much appreciated.
cheers

Make sure that the monitor you're using can display the resolution and number of colors you're currently using on the laptop; lower either of these and try it again, patient experimenting will allow you to find the monitor's upper limits. If it's a REALLY old monitor your laptop may not even be capable of going as low as its maximum.

Check the BIOS. There should be a setting there to switch between one or the other or both monitors.
