Hi, I have very strange behaviour with my laptop screen.

It shows green pixelated lines allover the images especially black..The pattern is strange and looks like as if a plastic sheet is being pressed on the LCD, This is the issue right from the moment the laptop starts up HP LOGO, BIOS, etc...not specific to OS. everything black is shown as almost green.
This distortion is sometimes intermittent and all of a sudden the screen comes back to normal all by itself.

All this while I have a external VGA monitor attached and it works perfectly fine.

I have replaced the entire display unit(lcd, cables, etc..) for the laptop, it worked fine for a week and the exact same issue is back on the new LCD as well. Still my external VGA has no issues and is perfect.

I have noticed one more strange thing happening with LCD...when I start to play a game, about 5 mins into the game, the LCD becomes normal again and stays perfect as long as I play the game.

I have no idea what is happening and how to isolate the issue. I am trying to break my head to isalate but cannot say if it is the Graphics card, Video RAM, bad interface or some loose connection.

All I know at this stage is it cannot be graphics card as external monitor works fine and also not LCD as the new LCD also showing same pattern as old one.

Please help if anyone can...sorry for the long post.

Thank You!!

To me, it sounds like a loose or intermittent connection issue somewhere. Since gaming is very intense, it causes the computer/laptop to get warmer than it does with normal use. And in so doing, the components in the computer expand (including connections), thus causing a better connection because the materials expand and fill the gaps of the intermittent connection.

There's no telling where the loose or intermittent connection might be, it could be on the connector from the LCD to the motherboard or on a trace somewhere.

I agree with Rayburn. It sounds like a flaky connection between the graphics adapter and the monitor screen.

Thank you for ur responses...I am also pretty sure that LCD video interface on the motherboard is gone...

Anyway I got myself a 23" HD monitor and hooked it to the DVI port...All is well with that atleast and happy with that

Thank You!!
