Laptop LCD lights but no image

I'm helping repair a NEC Versa 6030X laptop and the unit was recently dropped. The LCD lights up when the system is powered but no image is displayed. Furthermore, the laptop works fine with an external monitor and the contrast control still appears to function for the LCD.
I've disassembled the laptop and secured all cards and cables but this didn't help any. (no quick fix here...)
I'm not familiar with the workings of the inverter, (I'm assuming its job is to provide power to the LCD)as it appears to be working fine. So I'm wondering what part I need to look into replacing here.
Any thoughts / comments / advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The FL inverter is what powers the backlight.

The data is transfered to the laptop screen via a paper thin, flat, ribbon cable. It connects to the mobo and runs up the left side hing and is taped to the back of the LCD panel and then connects to a small curcuit board on the LCD panel. Since it works fine on an external monitor. I would supsect this is your problem. The cable is either damaged, cut, or has come lose. You need to invetigate this ribbon cable futher. You will have to take your laptop apart. Just make sure you don't boot you laptop up without the heatsink in place. Otherwise you will damage your processor. Good luck.

Alright, this laptop has 28 individual wires taped together running from the mobo to the LCD and 8 of which split off to the inverter. I've tested each wire in the cable for conductivity and all is good. I resecured the cables and retested but still no luck. Any other suggestions?
