Comment: Hi for some reason or other the keyboard of my laptop suddenly stopped working. I mean none of the keys work. External USB keyboard works fine. Contacted HP and they suggested replacing the onboard keyboard, which I did. But this made no difference. So according to hp if replacing the keyboard fails than it has to be the system board. I replaced the system and again keyboard still failed to respond. Thinking that perhaps it might be a DOA replacement system board I returned it to hp and got yet another board. I installed this second "new" board and hey presto the keyboard worked, but only for half an hour. Then gradually I started to lose sections of the keyboard and within 2 hours the keyboard stopped working completely. HP don't have any more answers. Anybody any other suggestions. Apart from buy a new laptop 'cause they are dirt cheap these days. I mean I don't want to get rid of this one as I am too comfortable with it. Thanks for any help.

Reply: (edit)What shows up in Device Manager? any yellow "!" or "?" ? Try removing the Keyboard in DM, then reboot. Windows should redetect and reinstall hardware & software. Check KB plug for loose or bent connectors. What about excess heat buildup? ?? There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Reply: (edit)Hi Thanks for your responses To answer your questions dumbob - in device manager all working OK I have in fact reinstalled the OS and the drivers from the original HP backup. made no difference. I know the keyboard itself is ok as I tested it at work on a similar model (same part number) and works a treat. Razor23 - PSU and battery both relatively new.

Reply: (edit)I tend not to look at the internals of laptops, so ignore this if its irrelevant, but have you tried a different keyboard ribbon cable?
