Laptop keyboard problem after water spill

December 24, 2009 at 06:22:14
Specs: Windows XP

I have a toshiba laptop that a little bit of water got splashed on to the other night. I immediately attempted to dry it with a towel and turned it upside to try to shake any water off. But after that, the 6,Y,H,N,and space bar do not work. Any ideas what to do? These keys are all in a line going diagonally down the keyboard.

... you could try keyboard removal and use a toothbrush on the (electrical) contact that slides into the contact slot.

... and/or use a hair dryer on the suspect keys!

If you are lucky since its was just water instead of a soda or coffe with sugar ,after it completely dries up it may go back to working for you ! I spillled coffee on my Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard and it woyld never work properly again ! I could not evn leave it hooked up to my PC just the touch of one key would send my computer in a loop of windows opening and not being able to stop it . I would have to perform a forced shut down by holding the on button in till it went off ! I waas really use to those backlite keys on the G15 .That keyboard was a gift and I just do not have $200 to spend on a keyboard so I went and purchased a inexpensive keyboard ! Well I wish you better luck then I had .
Take Care Nick
