I have a frustrating problem with a laptop. The CPU died and I replaced it. Before the CPU died the keyboard worked fine. After replacing thew CPU the keyboard stopped working properly. Thinking I had damaged the keyboard or the ribbon cable during assembly, I purchased a new keyboard, but the new one does the same exact thing. The problem is that a specific diagonal row of keys doesn't work. The keys in the row affected are 2-w-s-x. For some reason, gently flexing the keyboard outward (with the cable connected but the keyboard not secured to the laptop) causes those keys to work. How could a seemingly physical problem affect two keyboards? I can't find any information online about pinouts or keyboard design that would help me understand what could be wrong and that would effect only one small row of keys. Very frustrating! Not sure how to troubleshoot. Don't know anything about what on the motherboard could be the problem if not the keyboard itself. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

It sounds like an assembly problem. Possibly parts not fully seated and twisting on the keyboard.

yes I agree with the other posting the seating of the cable and keyboard are optimal.
just another point, ive never had a CPU fail and never thought a new cpu would be the remedy. Is this CPU fitted properly ,you should use a special tool to lift and place it--the only near problem Ive had is a new Flash rom chip corrupted
