laptop hd failure?

Specs: Windows Vista home 64, 2 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-70 Dual-Core Mobile Processor/4gb
So my cat knocked my laptop off the table whle i was using it. Now it doesnt boot up. There is a rythmic clicking noise when i power it on...sounds as if it is coming from where the hard drive is located. It starts to load then goes to a prompt that says No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key. I have tried running the hd test tool from bios and it doesnt find a hard drive. I also looked in the bios and there is no hard drive recognized. I tried the recovery disk but it times out when its ready to install to the hd and gives an error message of 100A. I figure it damaged my dirve when it hit the ground? If i buy another drive will the recovery disks still work to install on the new drive? Could it be something else? it is a HP Pavilion dv7-1132nr . Thanx for any help.

first thing i did was pop the hd out and then reseat it. had no effect. The noise is definately coming from the hd. I guess i will buy a hard drive today and try to run my restore disks.
