first find out if your laptop has a 2.5 inch hard drive in it, in which most cases it will be, if it is the ata6 will fit as it is a 2.5 inch drive and laptops use an IDI channel which is different from ATA/IDE, it just a matter of installing it, formatting the new drive and loading your os and drivers that came on a disc from emachines.

Do you have the books that came with the Laptop? It should have the specs in there. If not go to their web site and look it up. You might even get a step through on how to replace the Hard drive. Here is some help once you get it in.
313348 - HOW TO Partition and Format a Hard Disk in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=313348

You can go here and look for a Hard drive that works for your Laptop.
Pricewatch.com Go to the Notebook Drives and then at the bottom use the "View Ads by Brand."

I measured the width of the hard drive and it is a little over 2.5". So, I went to that website and they don't have any information about JEtta 7700+ hard drives. What can I do?

Ohh, yeah, by the way, I have the manual and they don't have any specifications for it. Is there any program I can use to do this?

All ATA specifications are backwards compatible with the previous (slower) ATA specs. So, this hard drive should work with your laptop. Have you considered a higher capacity drive, since you are replacing it anyway? Newegg has drives from other manufacturers with double the capacity of the drive you listed, at the same price, or less (such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822153023 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144374 both are 40gb 5400rpm drives with 3year warranties.)
