I am replacing the hard drive in my compaq presario 2105us laptop. i have purchased a 40 gb to replace the one that fried. i have sent my old drive in for warranty. it is a 44pin as all laptops are. i am needing an ide adapter connector that plugs on the 44pins and allows it to plug into a flat inline slot in my laptop. i doesn't use a cable. any ideas where to get this part compaq/hp has been no help in the matter.

I'm not familiar with that machine, the only answer I can think of is that there must have been a "caddy" or adaptor on the OLD one that you sent in? If so, only thing I can suggest is that you beat the hell out of compaq until you get it through the stupid moron on the other end that you need it back.

Or, look around ebay.

I'm not familiar with your Compaq, but my dell laptop had an adapter on the business end of the drive that had to be moved to the new drive. I was stumped too until I just happened to find an instruction sheet down in the bottom of the box.
