I've got this p2 gateway laptop and the hard drive is shot. How hard is it to switch it out for a new one? Any suggestions? I cannot find a guide any place online.

Icanheartheheart:

Some laptops are easy to remove/replace a hard drive (just a little harder than replacing a battery) and other laptops it is hard (in some cases you have to disassemble close to half of the system.) In the later case it is very easy to break something if you are not familiar with laptops. I myself have looked before (though not for a gateway laptop) and have never been able to find service manuals online.

You might get lucky I suggest you go to the gateway website here:

http://support.gateway.com/support/supinfo/index.asp?pg=2&file=mo.html

and/or here:

http://support.gateway.com/support/supinfo/index.asp?pg=2&file=mo_leg.html

look for your specific model. For instance one model I picked did have hard drive replacement intructions here:

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/liberty/00000030.shtml

I found that listed under product views for the model and it is one of the drives that is easy to replace.

Also, be advised laptop hard drives are expensive, compared to hard drives for desktop systems. There are some listed here:

and here:
