Is it possible to upgrade the graphics adapter in a laptop? I know how to change the graphics card in a PC but I've never seen the inside of a laptop.

I am a bit annoyed with my laptop. It's only a year old and it uses an Intel graphics adapter and even the the screen runs best in 1024x800, any games and when Windows loads is in 800x600 and I can't change it.

All I want to know is it it possible to change the card (or whatever)

Jam is correct. If it has that Intel gfx card, it isn't upgradeable.

If it's an intel graphics card, it means the GPU is IGP in the northbridge, similar to IGP's in desktop systems. Therefore, it is not removeable, and not upgradeable.

I'm gonna go shoot this dead horse in my backyard in the head again now because beating it apparently wasn't enough...

(Not aimed at intel810...)

I think we're getting off the point here; a 12 month old laptop should be perfectly capable of running Win at more that 800x640; I run a Thinkpad 770, best part of 10 years old, and that does.

I would be inclined to look at the drivers. Either the correct ones were never installed, or they got corrupted and it is running on some sort of default setting.

Replacing the graphics adaptor is not the solution here.
