Hey all,
I'm having the most peculiar problem with my Gateway M505B2 laptop. I purchased it from a reseller I found on Pricewatch, so it came to me new, if not exactly in the original packaging.
After putting a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 on it and a few choice programs, I felt myself ready to roll with my new laptop. However, I soon found it freezing up at strange times. The screen would freeze, any video or music playing would just stop, and no keyboard or mouse inputs would would be responded to. On a whim, I took out the battery and ran it off the AC adapter only, and found the problem pretty much stopped.
I called the reseller, explained the problem, and they replaced by battery with little fuss. I assumed that would fix the problem. Unfortunately, it did not, though it did get better. Now whenever the laptop is moved while in use (even in clamshell mode) or sat on certain surfaces, the strange freezing happens again. It will also happen at other intervals sporatically, but rarely. I'm nearing the end of my 90 day warranty, and I wonder if anyone knows a simple way to fix these problems, or if I should just ship it back and get a new one. I feel I probably won't have a problem with getting a new one, but it will just be an annoyance to be without my laptop for a couple weeks turn around time and then reinstall all my programs. Note that my girlfriend bought the exact same laptop from the exact same store and hasn't had the first problem. Works great.
So, does anyone know a solution? Or should I get a replacement?
Thanks!
-Thorn

My guess is you have a bad connection in the power subsystem. It will get only worse with time. If under warranty I would send it back.
