Laptop flickering screen

October 15, 2009 at 11:33:32
Specs: XP Media Centre

I have a laptop which displays graphics normally when connected to an external monitor but flickers/shimmers at bootup and doesn't displays colour properly in Windows once booted up.

I would descibe the flickering as if the image is shaking left to right rapidly in small movements as if it can't hold the image still. Once booted the colours aren't displayed properly as if it can't display the full bit depth plus white text isn't legible.

I assume the fact the screen flickers/shimmers in the BIOS that it points to hardware fault.

I have changed the LCD screen, LCD cable, and LCD Invertor for new ones (correct parts) but still have the problem.

I don't know what else to try, can anyone help?

Are you saying that it ALWAYS works correctly when powered by ac adapter?

Hi Jefro
Thanks for your response. The results are the same on and off ac power. The screen always flickers on boot up and the colours are always wrong unless I'm using the computer through an external monitor.

There there are few choices left. Since external works then you can only assume part of the video works.

Motherboard, if you have it there might be a video board in the screen and maybe a video daughter board.
