I have a Compaq Presario 710 laptop, and the fan for some reason won't go on. My computer overheats and then shuts down. It is off-warranty and before taking it into a shop, would you advise me opening the computer and checking the fan? I'm an artist and have good manual dexterity.
Thanks in advance for your help!!

just take it to the shop and have them replace the fan for you

it won't cost you that much money
