My dvd/cd drive on my laptop has just now started malfunctioning. First, when I tried to insert cds to launch installation of programs, it wouldn't auto-launch and it wouldn't respond either when I tried to manually launch it. Whatever cd I put in there, it wouldn't read and recognize anything and I would get an error message telling me to insert a disk when I would try to launch it manually.

I tested these same cd's on my desktop computer and they started up just fine. Then I started having problems getting my drive to open just to eject a disk and I wasn't getting any sound coming from the drive when I would put a cd in there. Now the last cd I put in there is presently stuck because the drive won't open and eject so I can't even get to the cd.

I'm not seeing any more signs of physical activity from the drive even after I boot up. I'm thinking I might have a physical problem with my dvd drive.

Any suggestions?

It could be a problem with a connector. Try partially removing and reinserting the drive.
