Laptop doesnt turn on sometimes

Hi i am facing this problem for sometime now, my laptop doesnt turn on occasionally after i shut it down properly. when i switch on all the lights are on, but the screen is blank, then i press the power button all the lights are switched off but as soon as i get the power cord in, lights come back again and the screen is again blank,..sometimes i have to drain the battery and then switch on using power cord and then the laptop works fine

Does it work okay if you remove the battery and use the A/C power only?

Take a flashlight and put it right on the screen. Can you see anything? If so, your laptop backlight is dead. If you don't see anything, the whole LCD screen may be dead/dying. If you have an external out (VGA usually blue in color) try attaching it to an external monitor. If you get video, you've got a bad screen.
